Why This Fails Locally
Lucas is one of the newer pockets we cover, built up mostly around 2002. That matters more than it sounds like it should. A garage door system doesn't fail because it's old in the abstract, it fails because a specific part has run a specific number of cycles without ever being replaced. In a neighborhood built in the early 2000s, that means the torsion spring is almost certainly the original one the builder installed, and it's now sitting somewhere north of 15,000 open-close cycles. Same with the opener: if the house has never had a service call, the drive gear inside that unit is original too, and that's the part that strips first.
Compare that to older stock elsewhere in the region and the fault pattern shifts, older houses show rust-seized hinges and rot around the jamb. Lucas mostly doesn't have that problem yet. What it has instead is fatigue failure: springs that snap without warning because they were never swapped on schedule, and openers that start grinding before they quit outright. The climate here is the moderate-cold band typical of this part of Texas, so temperature swings add stress to steel that's already near the end of its rated cycle count, not the start of it.
